production blog: getting started

it is finally time to start filiming our short movie. Our group is having a lot of struggles finding a time to film. between my job. elys job. and jades job, we are struggling to find a time where we could all get together. after many debates, we landed on a time. this friday we decided that we will start to film. friday came and we were about to film. However, we forgot trevor had a hair appintment and coudnt make it. we still adapted to this situation and got together to film. becuase trevor is the main actor it is neccacary that he is there to film. Trevor is in almost every scene so we cant film without him. We were able to get done with filiming some of the first scene. another thing i had to accomplsih was the music. our group discussed what song or songs we will use for the film. after many debates we landed on one. seperate ways by journey. we thought the song has a perfect amount of emotion and energy that will match the film perfectly. what i had to do next way message the band for permission to use thier song. hopefully they will respond soon.

the last step is peer review. Now that i finshed editing all i had to do was get feedback, and fix what needed to be fixed. teh first people that wastched was my group. Naturaly. Then i showed my parents. Then lastly my friends. And my friends parents. the reception was great. But i encourageed them to be more honest. There were some easy fixes. One of them was the score. It was a little lackluster. Becuase i never got the rights to the song i wanted to use it was a struggle. I had to look through royalty free music. BUt it all seemed so bland. Like an ad. not a movie.SO i went back and looked more. I decied that the score with the use of no sound. And diegetic noises i could create more emotion. I finshed up editing and showed them once again. Much better.

Genre conventions: Shutter island

- For the thriller genre option, Shutter Island uses extremely wide shots to show where the film is taking place. They use wide shots to show multiple people walking at a certain time. The mid shot shows the character looking directly at you. The high angle shows them walking through the rain. The low level shows the contrast between the colors. Leonardo DiCaprio dresses in a detective outfit containing a trench coat and a tie. In this movie, Scorsese uses the dark lighting in the scene to symbolize the characters. The makeup in the film shutter island is mainly used to emphasize the expressions on their face. Major props to films that still use miniature models like this rather than purely CGI it up. It's noticeably in higher quality most of the time. The setting for shutter Island is mainly set in building ward C. Genre Conventions: The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight - A common camera camera angle used is a close up. Close ups like in the scene where the joker is being interogated, or when the detective is leaving the room. This shows emotion is the charcters. Another common angle used is the dutch tilt. THis creates a sense of uneasiness for the audience and foreshadows to what might happen next. Over the shoulders shots are commonly used to. They show equality between the charcter, adn even though they are fighting, they are equal to each other. The lighting used is dark, creating a menacing and dangerous mood symbolizing the jokers character to the audience. Batman was dressed in his superhero coastume which is all black to create fear, adn whn he was not wearing his batman costume, he was wearing a dark suit, to still keep the dar mood.
