short film research: last 3 minutes

Image
The film I chose to research was the last 3 minutes. This short film takes you through a tear-jerking flashback of a man's dying life. The short film the previous 3 minutes differs from our drama because in the last 3 minutes it displays a life drama meanwhile in our movie we display a sports drama. A Typical life drama would often be slower paced meanwhile our sports drama would most likely be a little bit faster. sound can be used to assist in the creation of tension, mood, tone, and changes in rhythm. This short included little to no dialogue about his entire life showing his life early on and how he has progressively aged showing his adventures along the way, instead the dialogue is displayed through the characters' body language and emotions. This sound from within the film is both diegetic and nondiegetic, the diegetic coming from the different events such as the army or the new baby or the beach, and the non-diegetic coming from the background music trying to create an

Short film research: kiss chase by ebele tate

Image
For short film research I decided to watch the short film, Kiss Chase, Ebele Tate. I looked for similarities between the drama genre and this film. Common Sound: The film similarly uses non-diegetic sound to use calming music in most parts of the film. The film also uses background music to express emotion in the film. The film also uses sound effects which could be used in action films as well. Common Mis-En-Scene: The film uses similar costumes to the drama genre with shirts and jeans. The film also uses the sun as a primary source of lighting to show the sweat on characters which brings out the intensity. Common Editing: Common editing between the film and the action genre is the use of lots of shaky camera movement and enhancement of images. The use of jump cuts are common in this film I like how the drama genre appeals to bringing out intensity in film which is not the hardest thing to do. Filming the drama genre also sounds extremely challenging but still fun. I think film

short film research: flasehood

This short film features sound, set design, and editing that are all relevant to our film. The diegetic sound is the first thing that comes to mind. This is a technique employed in drama films to communicate the film's emotions. The sound in this film is employed to convey the shock and anxiety he is experiencing. A non-diegetic sound is also used to depict the film's surrounding feelings. To make the viewers in shock, the film uses a dramatic entrance of the main character. Then there are gunshots and people fleeing to add to the film's unsettling atmosphere. The mise-en-scene in the film is inspired by the clothing. The man is dressed in typical street clothing, and the girl is dressed similarly. All of the characters wear the costumes that they are portraying, thus it is a true representation of their personalities. This is primarily utilized in drama to depict how characters ibehave and respond to emotions in their everyday lives and attire. Continuous editing was emplo

Research: How to make a short film

Image
The words short film are a mystery. Short films require a lot of time, effort, and energy, despite the fact that their name suggests a simple and quick process. This video taught me that planning is one of the most important steps in making a short film, if not the most important. One of the most important planning lessons I learned from this video is the importance of writing for the kind of movie you want to make. Until I gave it more thought, this seemed clear. It is essential that we do not attempt to incorporate things into our film that we are aware will not be possible to create when we are writing our script and planning for its production. For instance, we must ensure that we do not overspend and include items that exceed our budget, as well as that we do not write for a cast that includes more people than we are aware will be available to us. We can begin the writing process after establishing that in our minds. At this point, we will establish a beginning, middle, and conclu

Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full-length movie

Image
The setting of short film 9 is very gloomy and ominous at the outset. We quickly realized that the genre was strikingly similar to the action genre and shared many of its characteristics. The entire film was a thriller/action movie. There were numerous fight scenes and jump scares. Like a typical action movie, there was a lot of dark imagery and CGI. Since it was a short film, the plot was obviously brief; as a result, the viewer is thrown from the beginning to the middle of a longer story. It follows the character 9 as he fights the monster that killed his friends and seeks vengeance on them. There is very little character growth; for instance, character 9 was scared at first but is now brave. Audio effects are a major piece of the short film as there is no exchange, but there are numerous one of a kind audio cues and uproarious accidents which are ordinary in the activity classification. There were heaps of perspectives that made the full-length film unique. The dialogue in the short

Comparing Le Jetee, the short, and 12 Monkeys, the full-length movie

Image
Le Jetee and the remake of 12 Monkeys share many similarities, as you'd expect from the remake label, but they're also completely different in how they're produced and presented on screen. Le Jetee is an odd movie in that it's not really a fluid movie, but rather a still-image photonovel about a post-nuclear war time travel experiment. 12 Monkeys, on the other hand, is a movie about a prisoner sent back in time to gather information about a man-made virus that wiped out most of the planet's population. Both films can be extended to the sci-fi genre as many films are set in a futuristic world with time travel. One of the biggest takeaways from this video is that as long as the remake is done right, you can live with the feel of the original movie. This is relevant to our project in that we can take certain aspects of a well-made film and use them as inspiration and guidelines for our project to create a film that resembles Hollywood-level cinematic production. doing

short film research: Pommel

Image
For this short film research I chose Pommel by Paris Zarcilla. Pommel is about two British-Asian gymnast brothers and draws on the filmmaker's own experiences of growing up in an Asian household in the UK. With an overbearing and disapproving father, the elder brother begins to take out his frustrations on his younger brother. Both Pommel and our short film are of the sports drama genere. sound can be used to assist in the creation of tension, mood, tone, and changes in rhythm. This short did not include much dialouge, most of the emotion and feelings were conveyed through the characters actions and faces. The short included mainlt diegetic sound. There was not much noise added to the movie. The use of mainly diegetic sound made the story seem more realistic. The director did however remove a lot of sound. This created tension and was able to focus your attention on the actors portayol of thier feelings. the most common clamps in this genere were close ups, over the shoulder shots,

Dramatic thriller is a genre of fiction with many, often overlapping sub-genres. Makeup Normally, in thrillers, clothes and makeup are very important to create effects such as injuries and to make the actor look wicked. Props Mirrors are often used in thrillers to show what's happening in the background, not just the face of the main character. Thriller settings are mostly set in normal suburbs and cities, but can also be done in whole or in part in exotic areas such as foreign cities, deserts, polar regions, and high seas. -All mystery movies use speedy and gradual paced enhancing of their mov

genre decision

Image
My group decided to choose the drama genre. The genre looks extremely interesting to film with and I am supper excited to work on it with my group. We wanted to be original and try out a different genre this year since we have already tried the thriller. Since we have an extended amount of time for the film it makes it easier to choose the drama genre so we can add all the details. We chose the genre because it fits in with many of the shooting locations we have already decided on. This also helps us with the editing and music as well. Through drama we can really highlight the acting in the film so out number 1 goal is to perfect our acting in the film. We do want to focus on avoiding mistakes that are common in the drama genre. We want to focus on avoiding acting that is overdone and corny. We do need to tweak certain things on our pitch but we must go over that with our group before we can make those changes.

genres

Image
Choosing a genre is a super important aspect of our film. We narrowed it down to comedy, sci-fi, and drama. These genres are extremely unique and have very special storylines. I personally would love to research comedy as they are the most enjoyable watch. Comedy movies are extremely easy to create ideas, but the execution is hard. If you have poor execution in a comedy film then it will end up extremely bad. The next genre is sci-fi, sci fi is the opposite of comedy. sci fi is known for its obscure, un real nature that defies the limitation of real life. sci fi normally takes more advanced technology to create, as you are not following the "rules" of nature. Because of this, sci fi is a hard genre to pursue with a low budget, and very little time and experience. Drama is one of our personal favorites. I like drama because of the way it is able to create emotion in the viewer. Drama is often known to be overall emotional especially compared to other genres like comedy.
